Call out to 'sound artists' to remix Christmas Bells

The Challenge

Are you a music producer, sound artist, musician, DJ, remixer or someone who just messes around with sound in your spare time? Would you like to have some fun with some old recordings and have what you make broadcast on the radio?

Tyneside Sounds Society and Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums would like to invite you to download and listen to some 50 year old festive recordings of the carillon bells of Newcastle Civic Centre and make something new with them.

What you make will be broadcast on Star & Shadow Radio on Wednesday 6 January.

Rules:

  • Only use the recordings, do not add any extra synthesis, instruments, drums, synthesisers or sounds that already exist.
  • You can add vocals - singing, spoken or otherwise but they must be recorded exclusively for what you make.
  • Samplers, DAWs, effects, granular synthesis are all fine.
  • It can be as lo-fi or hi-tech as you want.
  • Tell us who you are and how you made the track.
  • It can be as long/short as you want but the radio show is only 1 hour long and we might have to edit things down.

 Listen and download the recordings.

Deadline:

Send what you make in no less than 320k mp3 format via wetransfer to tynesidesounds@gmail.com by midnight 3 January.

The sound remixes will be broadcast on Wednesday 6 January on Star & Shadow Radio.

We can't wait to listen to your creations!
