Copying

We are able to provide copies of a number of the records we look after. The type of copy will depend on:

• The format of the original
• The size
• The condition
• What you need the copy for.

Copies are only provided for private study and research. If you are wanting to publish an image of any of our records (including on websites) you will need our permission and to acknowledge Tyne & Wear Archives as the source. A reproduction fee may be incurred depending on the proposed use. Visit our image licensing page for more information.

We will try to provide a suitable copy whilst considering the need to preserve the original for the future. Copyright law may, on occasion, prevent us from supplying a copy.

We can offer:

• A self-service photography pass can be purchased for use during a visit to our search room. The use of flash photography and/ or tripods is not allowed. All photographs taken are for personal use only.
• PDF copies of microfilms can be purchased during a research session. Prints can be produced on A4 only. Copies can be downloaded to a USB if provided. 
• Scans of documents can be purchased and provided as a digital file via email or Dropbox.
• If we are unable to scan a document, we will endeavour to offer other copying options, including digital photography. If a specific resolution is required, this may be possible but must be discussed in advance of an order being placed.

To order copies, please email archives@northeastmuseums.org.uk with the details of the documents you would like copied. On returning this we'll provide a quotation. If you are happy with this we'll need payment before processing your order.
